From the age of 18 onwards (Lots of years!) I have always worked with, for and alongside children and young people trying to ensure that their voices are listened to and that their views and wishes are acted upon. I have been a youth worker, a counsellor and even a teacher. In each of these jobs I have learned from lots of other professionals but most of all I have learned from young people themselves. I have joined Streetwise to support the important work we are doing in Schools through our Early Help Youth Hubs, in which students can access information, advice, sexual health services, counselling and emotional health and wellbeing support in a safe and confidential space. I feel proud to have joined an organisation that puts young people first in all of the work that we do together.

Vicky started volunteering in a Youth Homelessness Charity in 2006 and completed her Masters in Youth and Community work at Durham University in 2010. With 15 years experience, Vicky has a keen interest in Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE), Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and passion for maintaining staff wellbeing through safe open dialogue and reflective practice. Vicky manages the Mental Health and Wellbeing Team that offers counselling and 121 sessions for young people.

Satsuki Shibuya.
Kemi completed her degree in BA Sociology and Criminology at the University of Essex in 2017 and then went on to achieve her MSc in Criminology and Forensic Psychology at Edinburgh Napier University 2018. Kemi has experience of working with ex-offenders on community payback orders supporting individuals in reintegrating back into society and meeting their individual needs. Kemi began working in secondary schools as a Learning Support Assistant as part of the SEND team, encouraging the support and development of 11-16year old’s both academically and emotionally.

As a qualified youth worker for 29 years, Janice is currently a detached youth worker for Streetwise delivering youth work on the streets for young people, on their terms. Janice is nationally recognised for training young people (ASDAN). Janice has a Diploma of Higher Education in Community and Youth Work Studies.

Benjamin Franklin
Michael has been working with young people and vulnerable adults since 2010. He started his career working for the Josephine & Jack project. Along side this he works at Newcastle’s Live Theatre as a facilitator for the youth theatre, actor and director. Michael has also developed his skills working in schools across the North East focusing on children’s mental health with Little Big Mouth CIC. He is very happy to be working on the B.A.M.E project at Streetwise as he feels it is a fantastic opportunity to help and support B.A.M.E young men.

Alexander Hamilton (and others)
Jackie is a Psychotherapist, with experience of working with both Young People and Adults. She works with a Person Centred Approach and is an Integrative Counsellor who uses Transactional Analysis along with other Theories, Models and Creative Methods. Jackie joined Streetwise in October 2023 and is particularly passionate about using Creativity to help Young People get the most out of their Counselling Experience.

Graham has a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, tailored specifically for children and young people. He is an integrative counsellor and works with transactional analysis, attachment theory, developmental theories and neurobiology. He has worked in school settings from primary to high school, for an Autism Trust and a Community Project in Northumberland. Graham has a passion for working with early years trauma and attachment, developed through his relationship with Barnardos that commenced in 2010.

Rosie is a passionate, energetic counsellor, coach, and training specialist with valuable experience in holistic health and wellbeing over a 30-year period. Rosie has worked with young people in differing settings over this time, from training in group settings to one to one counselling. Rosie brings a diverse multi-cultural experience from working in the middle east for 5 years. Rosie has also worked more recently within NCS (National Citizen Service) as a wave leader.
Rosie’s core counselling background includes a person centred model Diploma, and psychodynamic certificates and is a Mindfulness Practitioner (ACT advanced training). Rosie also has specialist training for trauma work in T.I.R. (Trauma Incident Reduction) and is experienced in using tools such as E.F.T for trauma, anxiety, fears & phobias, and depression. Rosie has designed and delivered many training programmes within mental health settings.

Chiara Gizzi
Rosul has spent the last five years working in a variety of educational roles after achieving a PGCE in 2017. Stemming from teaching roles to diverse support-based roles, to pastoral support, with an emphasis on a person-centred approach. Rosul has since become more focused in providing mental health provision while operating as an appointed mental health first aider since 2020. He is striving to be part of a service that can provide opportunity, social mobility, cultural capital and ultimately fulfil potential.

Jenny completed her Degree BA (Hons) in Counselling at Sunderland University graduating in 2017, where she then went onto completing a MSc in Psychology. Jenny has previous experience as a Counsellor working with children and adults specialising in trauma, working with survivors and supporters of Abuse. While at college Jenny worked for Scope who are a Charity for disability equality, she also has over 6 years experience in an administration role.

Julie is qualified as a person-centred counsellor in 2011, and began to volunteer with children in schools and also in bereavement support. She worked in a women and children supported accommodation as a family support worker (recovering from addiction). This led her to go on to work with adults in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre as an addictions counsellor, where she learnt about childhood trauma and wanted to help people earlier in their lives. Julie went on to work as a pastoral officer in a SEMH school with young people aged 11 to 16, where her role was focused on supporting pupils with their mental health and wellbeing. Julie believes the relationship is the fundamental basis of any intervention with children and brings with her a calm, empathic, kind, fun presence, which aids this

Sam joined Streetwise in she has a BA Hons Counselling Studies; CPCAB Level 4 Diploma Counselling Skills and a Diploma in Counselling Young People in Schools. Sam started working in youth work projects in the West End of Newcastle before completing her 2008 Counselling Degree at York S.T John. Sam has a special interest in supporting young people with SEMH and SEN. Sam has worked at Place2be; Anxious Minds and Childline, more recently she has worked in education for over 8 years counselling Young People in Private and State Education. Sam is a Person Centred Counsellor, and describes herself as Integrative and uses Humanistic, Cognitive and Holistic approaches, and tailors her therapy to meet young person’s individual needs. She is also an accredited member of the National Counselling Society.

Vic joined Streetwise in June 2022 as an Administrator and has a BA in Journalism. She has had a varied background in employment which has given Vic a wide knowledge of skills that fit in perfectly at Streetwise. Vic enjoys supporting and helping the fantastic Streetwise Team in the day to day administration tasks including taking referrals, answering the telephone and welcoming young people to the Streetwise offices.

Audrey Hepburn
Laura joined Streetwise in November 2022 as a Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner, she has since changed her role and is now a Mental Health & Wellbeing Therapist. Laura qualified as a Drama Therapist in 2019, holding a Master’s Degree. She has worked within Primary Schools offering therapy sessions to children and young people. Laura believes in providing a safe space for children and young people to express themselves and to be supported with mental health needs. She promotes psychological growth for her clients through working creatively, offering different forms of expression when words are simply not enough. Laura enjoys using drama, play, art and craft making, sounds work, storytelling, movement and metaphor within her practice depending on young people's needs.
