One of our Youth Workers Stephen "Bud" Russell has secured a place at University and will be working at Streetwise four days a week through the Rank Foundation Apprentice Youthworker Scheme (July 2010)
Streetwise now has a Tier 2 Alcohol worker called Simon Bell who can work with young people around alcohol use and risktaking. This is funded through Newcastle City Council's Area Based Grant. If you wish to refer yourself, or a young person to see Simon you can email simon@streetwisenorth.org.uk (April 2010)
My Wednesday Sunshine is a collection of poems, poetry and pictures by the young people who participated in therapeutic groupwork at NACRO. This was a group for young people who self harm and was facilitated by Kathleen McCreery, Streetwise Counsellor alongside Connexions. We hope you enjoy the read as much as the young people did making it (March 2010).
Streetwise wishes to thank BBC Children in Need for allocating us £71,000 over the next 3 years to continue our work with young people who self-harm. The Taboo group offers 8 week group work programmes at NACRO and The Foyer, and specialist 1-1 sessions with a mental health worker. Tracey Brooks, Counselling Manager stated 'this is a fantastic opportunity to build upon the work we have been doing and to really make a difference to young peoples lives' (December 2009)
